Tweaking your FPS (Frames Per Second)
Alright - This will Increase your FPS.
This is done, by LOWERING your graphics.
Thus, allowing you a far greater chance to crush opponents first.
Having 125+ FPS you will quickly find, is FAR better.
search your q3config.cfg file, for the following variables:

Depending on your video card, this should increase your FPS.
People have reported gains of +20 to +45 FPS from following these settings.

Ideally, any person competing at a PRO level, should be pushing 120+ FPS.
Everybody else in the league will be.
Optional:
Depending on your monitors dimensions,
you may be able to increase the Width of your View.
Standard monitors:

Note:
Nvidia users may need to change a setting
in the nvidia control panel:
- disable threaded optimization and/or setting Multi-display/Mixed GPU acceleration to
"Single display performance mode".
